SHILLONG: Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) chief Champion Sangma, who is currently booked under the Meghalaya Preventive Detention Act (MPDA), has lodged an FIR against the DG (Prisons) Kulbir Krishan with an intention to bring out the truth behind the Williamnagar jail attack in which Assistant Jailor Neil Warjri and Warder Sarai Singh Thabah were shot dead when a group of militants attacked the jail earlier this month.
Reliable sources on Monday informed that the Champion lodged the FIR at the Sadar Police Station on February 9 through the Superintendent of Jails but the FIR has not been forwarded to the respective Police Station.
“The objective of the FIR is to bring out the truth behind the incident and police must investigate into the entire incident,” sources said on request of anonymity.
Aggrieved that the FIR had not yet been forwarded, Champion has now decided to approach the High Court seeking action against the SP (Jails).
The attack by the militants on the jail had posed questions on the security of employees in Garo Hills with the Khasi Students’ Union and others demanding immediate transfer of all the Khasis posted in Garo Hills.
