Show of strength by Syiem

SHILLONG: Congress candidate from Mawsynram constituency, Pynshngain N Syiem, who is also the CEM of the KHADC, is gaining momentum owing to the presence of a large number of supporters not less than 2,000 who attended every area public meeting held by him at various areas during his campaign.

In a meeting held at Lawbah on Wednesday, which was attended by over thousands of people, Syiem said that in the last five years, he has brought about many developmental projects to the constituency from schools to health centres and a Border Haat in Dangar and the like.

General Secretary of the Mawsynram Block Congress Committee Pillarstone Raimon predicted that PN Syiem will win by over 3,000 votes or more.

In Sawsymper area, Syiem is competing against independent candidate Suly Lyngdoh, in his strong rival is Khraw Jyrwa of UDP.

In Lawbah, he is facing tough competition from DP Iangjuh Kyrtong of NPP and Khraw Jyrwa.

In areas where the residents are Garo, Bengali, Hajong, Myndai and residents living in the border areas, the fight is mainly between him and DP Iangjuh, whereas in Hima Bhowal, there were reports that he will garner as much as around 80 per cent of the votes.
