Election crime update

Even though the Assembly elections passed off peacefully, many complaints of threatening and manhandling of party workers and candidates are still being reported from different parts of the State.

One Bibastin R. Marak lodged a complaint at Baghmara police station on February 22 that one LM Sangma along with five unidentified armed persons, enquired him for which candidate he would cast his vote.

However when he refused to reply, they assaulted him and also threatened that he should vote in favour of Samuel M. Sangma, Independent candidate from Baghmara constituency.

In another complaint, Charlie J Rani, organising secretary of KHNAM lodged a complaint at Mawlai police station that UDP supporters–Gordon Khongsit, Churchil Syiemlieh, Dondor Mukhim and one Krit had detained and attempted to manhandle KHNAM party workers Shanborlang Kshiar and Steven Kharbuli at Umsaw Mawjynrong (EKH).Later, Shanborlang Kshiar and others lodged a complaint that the UDP supporters assaulted and also threatened them with dire consequences.

The vice-president of UDP Mawlai Circle Edward Wahlang also lodged a complaint at Mawlai Police Station that one Batskhem Makdoh and his accomplices circulated defamatory pamphlets in Mawlai constituency to tarnish the image of UDP Candidate Embhahlang Syiemlieh. He then lodged another complaint that occupants of two vehicles (ML-10-1564 & ML-05E-3855) also circulated the pamphlets.
