Assembly pays tributes to late political leaders

SHILLONG: The State Legislative Assembly on Thursday paid eloquent tributes to as many as 13 late political leaders.

Making the obituary reference, Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma remembered the contribution of former State minister (L) Maysalin War who passed away on January 3 at the age of 88.

Dr Sangma also recalled the contributions made by War to the State and its people.

Senior Congress leader DD Lapang and Salseng C Marak, Home Minister Roshan Warjri and UDP leader Dr Donkupar Roy, besides others, also recalled the contributions of former minister Maysalin War who had served as a Minister of Health, Community & Rural Development and Social Welfare besides holding various other important positions including Honorary Secretaryship of Indian Red Cross Society, Nongstoin and membership of the Meghalaya State Social Welfare Board.

The Chief Minister also paid tributes to former Rajya Sabha member Ravi Shankar, Indian politician and industrialist and former Governor of West Bengal Viren J Shah, MP Mukesh Gadhvi, former Chief Minister of Puducherry P Shanmugam, former Speaker of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly Dattaji Nalawade, Former Kolkata Mayor Kamal Basu and Former MP Uma Shankar Singh, besides others.
