First Chief Justice of Shillong HC to take oath on March 25

SHILLONG: Patna High Court Judge Justice T Meena Kumari would be sworn in as the first Chief Justice of the Shillong High Court on March 25. Governor RS Mooshahary would administer the oath to the Chief Justice.

The obligatory amendment to the North-Eastern Areas (Re-organisation) Act, 1971 – the North-Eastern Areas (Re-organisation) and Other Related Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2012 – was passed by the Parliament in May 2012, paving the way for the creation of separate high courts in Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur.
