CSWO takes up issues with UN Rapporteur

SHILLONG: Illegal mining, crime against women and border dispute with Assam were taken up by CSWO with Prof. James Anaya, United Nations Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples at a session from March 12 to 13 at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, after her arrival from Malaysia, the CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing said that she had apprised the official on the delay in finding solution to the border dispute, various crimes against women and children and the illegal mining activities being carried out in the State.

The CSWO also sought the intervention of UN to stop all plans to mine uranium and also to revoke all MoUs and environment clearances granted to mining companies in Meghalaya, despite people’s vehement objections.
