Dr Ashwani Kumar to take oath as Governor of Nagaland today

Kohima: The Governor designate of Nagaland Dr. Ashwani Kumar has arrived Kohima to take over the charge of the Governor Nagaland Governor of Nagaland on Thursday.

On his arrival at the Kohima Assam Rifles helipad, Dr. Kumar was accorded a warm welcome by the Nagaland Chief Minister, his Cabinet colleagues, Chief Secretary and senior Government dignitaries including the Commissioner, Nagaland and DGP.

The Governor designate was accorded guard of honour salute by the Nagaland Police at the helipad, before departing for the Raj Bhavan Kohima.

The designate Governor escorted by the Chief Secretary and the DGP was received by the Raj Bhavan Secretariat staff.

According to Raj Bhavan sources Dr. Ashwani Kumar will take oath as the Governor of Nagaland on Thursday morning at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhawan, which will be administered by Mr. Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel, Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court at 1100 hours.

Dr. Kumar, who was the Director of the agency from August 2008 to November 2010, is the first head of the agency to be appointed as a Governor.

62-year-old Dr. Kumar, who has worked in various positions in CBI and elite SPG, who hails from a small hill-town by the name of Nahan in Himachal Pradesh, completed his Doctorate from Himachal Pradesh University.

Dr. Kumar did his PhD in Management and has a Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) with specialization in Human Resources Management.

Dr. Kumar, an IPS officer of Himachal Pradesh Cadre, 1973 batch, has also served in the elite Special Protection Group (SPG) dealing with the security of the Prime Minister of India.

He had served in the investigating agency as its Joint Director (Policy) and also as Staff Officer to the then agency Director P. C. Sharma.

He also had a brief stint as the CBI’s Additional Director before he was appointed as the Director General of Himachal Pradesh police.

He had been appointed to the post of CBI Director on August 2, 2008.

He retired on November 30, 2010.

He was appointed as the Governor of Nagaland by the President of India on March 9 last. (UNI)
