Fake company busted, three arrested

SHILLONG: The Special Cell of Meghalaya Police on Wednesday night busted a fake company at Dhankheti for allegedly duping people of several lakhs of rupees.

As per preliminary investigation, Silchar (Assam) based Kiron Jyoti Project and Developers Private Limited with its office at Dhankheti has managed to dupe as many as 150 depositors especially those from the unorganized sectors to the tune of Rs 20 lakh.

Police informed that this company which was brought to the State by the its agent had recently shut down its office in Guwahati after collecting money from depositors and linked the same depositors to Believers Management India Pvt Ltd based in Hooghly, West Bengal.

On investigation it was found that the documents pertaining to the company appear fake with the denial of LIC and SBI life Insurance, Shillong having any affiliation with the company as projected.

In this regard, police have arrested three persons – Biswajit Chakravarti of Silchar, Nupur Barua of Jail Road and Malsawui Ralte of Mawpun.
