SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma said that he had sought a special package from Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram to improve the condition of the existing roads in the State.

“We propose to widen and upgrade all major district roads, State highways and other strategic roads. We will mobilize and deploy State funds, Central funds as well as multi-lateral funds to ensure growth in this sector,” the Chief Minister said while presenting the Budget in the Assembly on Friday.

Majority of the roads across the State are in a pathetic condition. Moreover, many roads in several parts of the city are also in bad shape.
