Bangladesh independence day marked in New Delhi

New Delhi: The 43rd Independence and National Day of Bangladesh was celebrated here today at the High Commission.

The Bangladesh High Commissioner Mr Tariq A Karim held a reception in the night as part of the celebrations.

On the occasion, both the head of the state and head of the Government of Bangladesh greeted the nation and paid homage to the 1971 martyrs.

Bangladesh has honoured selected noted foreigners mainly Indians who helped the country in the liberation war.

Several diplomats, leaders of different political parties, socio-cultural organisations and important people from all walks of life attended the reception.

The day is a public holiday in Bangladesh and the national flag was flying atop the high commission during the day.
