SHILLONG: Congress nominee Wansuk Syiem, who is set to be elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha, will file her nomination papers on Monday, the last day for filing of nominations.
With the Opposition not putting up any candidate, Syiem will be the lone nominee vying for the seat which fell vacant after former Rajya Sabha MP Thomas A Sangma (NCP) resigned to contest the Assembly election on an NPP ticket.
Meanwhile, Syiem on Sunday said that her four-year stint in Delhi as member of the National Commission for Women will come in handy when she takes charge of her new responsibility. She, however, said that she would need time to familiarize herself with the functions of an MP as this will be a new experience for her.
In another development, NCP legislator Sanbor Shullai will also file his nomination to contest for the post of Deputy Speaker of the State legislative Assembly scheduled on April 18.
The MUA meeting on Saturday endorsed the candidature of Shullai who will also be elected unopposed since the UDP-led Opposition has decided not to put up any candidate.
