NEW DELHI: A Manipuri student of a Delhi University college on Sunday allegedly committed suicide by strangulating himself in his hostel room, police said. “Chang Kripa Singh, a first year student of Music (Hons) in Hindu College and a resident of Manipur, was found dead in his hostel room at around 5:30 AM when he didn’t open the door after his roommate kept knocking,” a senior police officer said.

Singh had strangled himself with the cord of cell phone charger, the officer said.

A suicide note had been found from his room, he said. Police prima facie rule out foul play, as the suicide note mentioned he was suffering from depression and hence took the drastic step. According to his family members, he had told them that he was unable to communicate with fellow students and had also talked about academic pressure.

They said they had planned to take him back to Manipur. (PTI)
