SHILLONG: In yet another act of highhandedness by the Army, two Army personnel, including a colonel, on Wednesday went to the extent of stealing the clamp which was put on their vehicle for wrong parking.

According to Laitumkhrah Police Station Traffic In charge, the Army vehicle was parked illegally on the footpath opposite of Yalana Hotel at Laitumkhrah which was disturbing the free movement of pedestrians on Wednesday evening.

Taking strong note of the illegal parking, the traffic sleuths put a clamp on the vehicle (^06D094709E) as it is normally done in all the cases.

However, the Army personnel took out the wheels where the clamp was put on and kept it inside the vehicle.

The two Army personnel have been identified as Solanki Sanjay Kumar (22) who was the driver and Col Navin Kumar (52), both hailing from 101 area.

“We caught them as and have put a theft case as clamps are Government property,” he added.

The Traffic police have also registered a case and arrested both the Army personnel.

This is not the first instance when Army personnel have indulge in wrong and forceful parking.
