SHILLONG: The Director of North Eastern Space Application Centre (NESAC) Dr S Sudhakar has rued the fact that the State Government is not sharing the data which would go a long way in quick preparedness at times of earthquake.
Talking to reporters here on the sideline of a two day workshop on holistic Scientific Approach Using Integrated Geophysical Studies for the management of natural hazards, he said that the State IT department must share their datas to address the issue.
“My aim is to make all data’s integrate and bring it together which can be used for quick preparedness in times eventuality,” he told reporters.
He also said that the Assam Government and NESAC have recently taken various initiatives to tackle the problem of flood and the Centre along with an NGO recently carried out a survey in three major towns of Assam-Silchar, Dibrugarh and Guwahati
During the survey, footprints of the buildings were recorded so that they can accordingly work out a detailed preparedness during the time of eventuality besides creating at atlas of the town.
According to Sudhakar, the NESAC had submitted the proposal to the State Government a year back but the Disaster Management authorities have not yet approved the proposal.
“However, the Chief Minister has assured funds for the job,” he told reporters.
He also said that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has approved the setting up of a division called North East Regional Nod for Disaster Risk Management with a funding of four crores and ten project scientists.
He also asserted that the flood warning system of NESAC in Bramhaputra river is doing a yeoman service and the success rate was around eighty percent.
A large number of young scholars besides young scientists from across the country participated in the two day workshop.
