Bandh in Tripura’s Khedacherra block

Agartala: A 48-hour bandh called by some Bru organisations to protest the alleged custodial death of person in Mizoram today affected normal life in Khedacherra block of North Tripura district.

Local markets, schools and educational institutions were closed, vehicles did not ply on the roads and attendance in government offices were nil, official sources said.

Spokesman of Bru Socio Cultural Organisation and advocate, Binoy Reang said the bandh was called to protest the alleged custodial death and press for exemplary punishment of the erring police officers.

One Sibram Reang (25), who was arrested by the Mizoram police and the Tripura police in connection with the robbery of Abdul Manaf Uddin and his family members, escaped from the custody of the Mizoram Police on April 14. The mutilated body of Reang was found hanging at Laitauhpara village in Tripura on April 21. (PTI)
