Sankardeva movement to reach Bengaluru

 Guwahati: The nationwide Srimanta Sankardeva movement initiated by Trend MMS, a leading cultural trust in Assam to promote the great icon of cultural and social integrator Srimanta Sankerdeva will reach the southern metropolis Bengaluru on June 1 next.

Victor Banerjee, renowned cine actor who has a very long association with Assam and is the brand ambassador of this movement informed that last year an event was organised at Kamani Auditourim, New Delhi as part of the movement that attracted leading cultural elites of New Delhi along with political leaders.

Union HRD Minister, Kapil Sibal during the event declared that a Chapter on Sankaradeva would be introduced in the NCERT syllabus. Banerjee on Tuesday informed that continuous follow up had been made with NCERT since then for formal notification in this regard was expected in the next review around 2014.

Shyamkanu Mahanta, the chief organiser of the event informed that the second edition of Sankaradeva Movement would be organised on June 1, 2013 at Chaudia Memorial Hall, Bengaluru.

Legendary Sarod Maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, who is also a son in law of Assam would give a special tribute to Mahapurush Sankaradeva during the event.

UR Ananthamurthy, one of the most respected writers and social workers of the country would be the chief guest of the evening which would be also attended by M Veerappa Moily, Union Petroleum Minister, Assam CM Tarun Gogoi amongst others.

The programme would contain an audiovisual documentary on Sankaradeva, Chordhora Jhumura dance drama, and tribute by leading Assamese singers like Angaraag Mahanta & Joi Barua.

The Assamese Community in Bengaluru have formed Sankaradeva Movement, Bengaluru Chapter to assist Trend MMS to organize the event. Yugantar Saikia, coordinator of the chapter informed that a souvenir is being published which would cover articles on Sankaradeva and Assam from globally known authors like Hugh CollenGantzer, Linda DedVolderetc apart from articles written by most decorated Assamese litterateur Dr. Lakhinandan Bora, Padmshree Arun Sarma, Sanjib Sabhapandit, Bhaskarjyoti Mahanta etc.
