Year of Youth celebrations to commence from May 18

 SHILLONG: As part of the Year of the Youth Celebration, the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) has finalised the venues for the various events to be held in West Khasi Hills during the Youth Fest 2013 which is scheduled to be held on May 18.

Besides West Khasi Hills, the event would also be held on the same day in other six districts- East Khasi Hills, Jaintia Hills, Ri-Bhoi District, West Garo Hills, East Garo Hills and South Garo Hills.

The events for the Youth Fest are Half Marathon, Music. Debate and Quiz.

West Khasi Hills event coordinator Donny Ranee informed that the Half Marathon of 21 km will be flag off from Iew Nongstoin. 15 female and male will qualify for the State level marathon event to be held in Shillong on May 25.

The music competition in folk and modern category would be held at Indoor Hall, Nongstoin. The winners would be selected to participate in the final event to be held in Shillong.

The music band competition would also be held at Indoor Hall and only one band will qualify for the final event.

The topic for the district level debate competition is ‘Sports Infrastructure, the bane of Sports Progress in India’ would also be held at the Indoor Hall.

The Prize money for the District Half Marathon (Male & Female), Debate, Quiz and Individual Folk & Modern songs is 5000, 3000 & 2000 for first, second and third while the best 3 Bands will take home 7000,5000 and 3000 respectively.

From each District, the top 15 runners of the Half Marathon, Top 2 Folk and Modern Individual singers, Top Band, Debate team and Quiz team will qualify for the Grand Finale of the State Level Competition to be held on 25th May 2013 at Shillong.

For the State level competition the Prize money is 50,000/-,30,000/- & 20,000/- for first, second and third prize in the Half Marathon & Best Band.

For the Music Solo (folk & modern songs) contest it’s 30,000/-, 20,000/- & 10,000/- respectively and the top Quiz and Debate teams will take home 30,000/- each with trophies and certificates.

All youths aged between 16 and 35 are invited to take part in the various events to be held at Shillong, Jowai, Nongpoh, Nongstoin, Tura, Williamnagar and Baghmara.
