SHILLONG: Around 140 delegates representing 12 regions of the Indian Young Christian Students/Young Students Movement (YCS/YSM) from all over India have gathered at Bethel prayer house in Umsning for the XVI Formation Session and National Council on the theme ‘Student’s Education in Modern Era’ from May 19-28.

Speaking on the occasion Archbishop of Shillong, Rev. Dominic Jala stressed upon the need for young people to come together and work on putting themselves in the service of the society through the guidance of God.

He applauded the efforts of the YCS/YSM movement in the region and wished success for the participants. He also thanked the National Chaplain Fr. Charles for organizing the programme in the Northeast which would make a big difference in the ongoing faith formation of the teenagers. Umsning MLA, C Lyngdoh, was also present.

The inaugural mass was offered by Rev Jala, accompanied by Bishop of Itanagar and North East Regional Youth Chairman, Most Rev John Thomas, National YCS/YSM Chaplain Rev Fr Charles Menezes and other priests.

The programme also witnessed intra-cultural displays in the form of song and dance from groups including Umroi aspirants of MSMHC, Jesus Youth Shillong, Fernando Speech and Hearing Centre students, Edward Thma and St Theresia Choir from Madanriting Shillong.
