7 arrested in highway robbery case

 JOWAI: The West Jaintia Hills Police on Tuesday arrested five persons for allegedly committing robbery in the highway near Mookyndur village while two others were arrested on Sunday.

The arrested persons were identified as Jerimaya Laloo, Shimki Pariat, Leki Rymbai, Deng Rymbai, Treibor Rymbai, Kitdot Chympa and Mebanshan Syngkon all of Moodymmai village in East Jaintia Hills District.

Sources informed that Police arrested Jerimaya Laloo and Shimki Pariaton at midnight on Sunday .

According to Police, the arrested persons robbed a truck driver, Wot Suchen, of Rs 10,000 on Sunday evening. The truck bearing registration number AS-01-DC-4196 was proceeding from Ladrymbai to Guwahati when it was hijacked at the DMR gate in Mookyndur. The robbers also severely assaulted the helper Biru Basumatary.
