NONGPOH: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), women’s wing, central body reached out to the cyclone victims in Western Ri Bhoi, extending a helping hand to the villagers at the Patharkhmah community hall on Tuesday.

Over 400 families from 13 villages in Western Ri Bhoi were affected by the cyclonic storm that hit the area on May 6.

Led by its president Bety Jyrwa, the HANM women’s wing distributed rice, clothes and mosquito nets to the affected people.

Interestingly, none of the elected representatives like the MLA and MDC of Jirang constituency have taken any initiative to provide immediate relief to the victims.

The Rangbah Shnong of different villages under Jirang also expressed disappointment over the attitude of the elected representatives. The HANM urged the State Government to provide an immediate relief fund to those affected by the cyclonic storm.
