JOWAI: The Jaintia Hills Truck Owners Association (JHTOA) has been divided into two groups, one being led by Balen Thubru and the other by former JHADC member, Helping Phawa. Phawa was elected as the president on December 2011 while Balen Thubru was elected as the president on January 2013.

The group of truck owners under the leadership of Phawa threatened to file a police complaint against Thubru alleging him of false claims to be the JHTOA president. “He claimed that he is the president and his claims are illegal as I am still the president and we demand that he (Thubru) should clarify his claim within three days. If he fails to do so, we will lodge a police complaint against him”, Phawa said.

In a press release issued by Thrubu here on Wednesday, the JHTOA has set a 20 day deadline to the State government demanding immediate improvement of the bad road condition of NH- 44 from Jowai to Malidor.

Phawa informed that Thrubu might have raised a significant issue but he has no right to claim himself as the president of the JHTOA. The JHTOA never elected him as the president.
