SHILLONG: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the employees (teachers and non-teaching staff) of NEHU suspended their agitational programme on Friday after the Vice-Chancellor agreed to set aside all agenda related to Hill Area Special Allowance (HASA) and proposed withholding of any financial grant from the Ministry of Human Resources Development and the UGC in the Academic Council whenever it is reconvened.
“However, the agitation continues in strategic form until all our demands are accepted,” JAC spokesperson SB Prasad said.
Earlier in the day, the general assembly of the NEHU staff resolved and reiterated their demand that the Vice-Chancellor should honour the resolution arrived at between him and the JAC on June 17.
The assembly also made it clear that the Vice-Chancellor’s decision to constitute a broad based delegation comprising of members from the faculty, officers, teaching and non-teaching associations to go to the MHRD and the President of India to discuss about HASA related matter is not acceptable.
After the meeting, all the employees went back to their respective offices and departments and resumed their work.
