New Delhi: Four people were arrested for concocting a story of robbery and cheating a Muthoot Finance company branch of 3.4 kg gold, police said here on Sunday.
Two of the arrested are employees of the company.
Srijeet, 29, an assistant manager of the company, and Girish Chand, 38, an office boy, were arrested along with Amit Advani, 30, and Sandeep Khatri, 30. Police recovered 2.6 kg gold and Rs.10.5 lakh cash from them.
Srijeet and Chand were sent by the finance company to collect 3.5 kg gold ornaments from Delhi’s Lajpat Nagar May 30.
“After collecting the gold, Srijeet called Khatri, who sent Advani to collect the bag from Srijeet. Girish gave Advani the bag and made a call to the Police Control Room saying that they had been robbed,” said Alok Kumar, deputy commissioner of police.
“Girish and Srijeet then informed Muthoot Finance’s Karol Bagh branch about the robbery. They told police that two motorcyle-borne miscreants snatched the bag at gun point,” said Kumar.
“Girish broke down during interrogation and confessed that the accused had planned to embezzle the jewellery and make a false call of robbery,” said Kumar. (IANS)
