ANSU to ahead with June 11 bandh
Itanagar: The All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) today said it would go ahead with its dawn to dusk capital bandh on Tuesday following the state government’s alleged failure to consider its demands. Chief Minister Nabam Tuki had invited a delegation of the students’ body last evening to discuss its charter of demands, but he had failed to meet it, ANSU said in a press statement. “We are going ahead with our proposed bandh call,” ANSU President Sika Gapak said. The union has called the bandh demanding immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the killing of a youth at Legi Complex here on May 26 last among others. Meanwhile, the chief minister has appealed the ANSU to reconsider its decision for a bandh call keeping in view the interest of the common citizens and the ongoing enquiry. (PTI)
Two insurgents surrender
Imphal: Two insurgents surrendered and laid down arms before the army in Manipur, official sources said on Monday. Moirangthem John and Ningthoujam Abung of the United National Liberation Front deposited two pistols and ammunition during the surrender to the Red Shield Division of the army on Saturday. So far over 78 insurgents belonging to different outfits have surrendered to the authorities this year, the sources said. Insurgents who fulfilled the criteria set by authorities particularly those who surrendered with arms would be given a stipend for two years, they added. (PTI)
Ibobi presents budget of Rs 9397 cr
Imphal: Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who also holds the Finance portfolio, on Monday presented the budget for 2013-14 in the state Assembly. Annual Plan Outlay has been fixed at Rs 3650 crores for 2013-14. These plan funds will be utilized for completing ongoing projects and taking up some new important developmental works Fiscal deficit during 2012-13 is estimated at below 1 per cent, which is within the ceiling of 3.5 per cent of Gross State Domestic Product mandated by the Manipur Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, he said. Outstanding fiscal liability as percent of GSDP is 57.29 percent which is within the ceiling of 60.10 per cent mandated by the FRBM Act. (UNI)
