SHILLONG: Following worsening condition of the Shillong-Guwahati highway (NH 40), the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has assured of repairing the road within ten days.
Sources informed that the poor condition of the road was discussed at the recently held review meeting here.
The NHAI also assured the Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma that it will work expeditiously to ensure that the ongoing four-lane Jorabat-Umiam project is completed within its schedule time. The Ri-Bhoi district administration will also keep watch to ensure that the roads are repaired and the project is completed within the deadline.
The meeting also discussed the issue of land to be handed over to the NHAI for timely completion of the project. The State Government is yet to hand over land from Umsning by pass to the NHAI. However, sources informed that the process of land acquisition is going on and the required land would be handed over to the NHAI within three-four months.
“There is no major opposition to the land acquisition process,” sources said.
