SHILLONG: The North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has clarified that due to acidification of the Kopili and Umlong reservoirs, severe corrosion in the underwater parts of the units and hydraulic structures in the Kopili hydroelectric plant results in frequent forced outages as well as increase in the outage period.

In a statement issued here on Tuesday, NEEPCO also said that the 275mw Kopili plant was forced to shut down for the safety of the power station as there was heavy leakage of water.

Two power plants in Tripura and Assam will also be shut down for maintenance.
