Fish pond inaugurated in South West Khasi Hills

 NONGSTOIN: The first fish pond constructed under the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission was inaugurated on Wednesday at Mawten Village in South West Khasi Hills.

The pond was inaugurated by district Additional Deputy Commissioner, KL Nongbri, in the presence of MS Sangma, ADC, A Nongbri, BDO of Mawkyrwat, OL Passah, Fishery Officer, village elders and a host of other dignitaries.

Addressing the gathering, KL Nongbri lauded the Meghalaya State Aquaculture Mission for its efforts to provide financial assistance to the fish farmers in South West Khasi Hills.

He advised the farmers to abstain from organising fishing competitions in ponds constructed with government aid.

Nongbri also emphasized on pond management as a daily affair and also appealed to the public to partake in conserving the local fish population of the area.

Later, the Additional Deputy Commissioner released fingerlings in the pond.
