SHILLONG: The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU), Mawlai Circle, has warned all residents of the locality to refrain from underground drilling of water in their respective land.

According to KSU environment secretary Donbor Khyriem, drilling for water is rampant in the city and it will not only have a negative impact on the biodiversity but also on the lives of the people. Drilling also poses a threat to the water sources in the locality which relies on such natural water sources, the KSU said.

The KSU also urged the local headmen to support this cause to ensure the protection and preservation of the environment.

The Union has also asked the companies involved in drilling work not to carry out such activities within the jurisdiction of Mawlai and warned of strong actions against them for non compliance.
