SHILLONG: The Khasi Student’s Union, Mawryngkneng Circle has expressed concern over the recent transfer of 3 teachers including the Headmistress from the Government Upper Primary School in Mawryngkneng stating that this will hamper the classes of the students due to the unavailable of teachers in this school.
Highlighting the plight faced by the students of this government school, the union raised their concern for the students of Class -IX which was recently upgraded under the sanction of Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhijan (RMSA).
“The upgradation has brought about the transfer of teachers and the government has not yet appointed any teachers to replace the transferred ones till date and this will definitely jeopardize their studies especially in this critical period of their studies,” KSU president Wallambok Kharsati said.
As of now the strength of the teacher available in this school is only six and they have to accommodate classes from Pre-Nursery to Class-IX.
“Even though, a month after the transfer of the 3 teachers and another teacher last year, the government has not yet made any replacements of the above vacant post and this has become a matter of concern for the parents who admitted their children on this government school,” Kharsati added.
This attitude of the government to transfer the three teachers at a time without replacement in their place shows the lack of seriousness on the part of the government especially the department concern to uplift the standard of education in the rural areas, the KSU leader said.
It may be mentioned that this school has been established in the year of 1956 and is the only full-fledged government school in this area.
In this regard, the union has asked the Deputy Inspector of School, East Khasi Hills and the District School Education Officer to appoint the replacement teachers in this school and also to immediately appoint the teachers under RMSA for the Secondary Section to ensure that the career of students are not hampered.
“The department should also make sure that the teachers to be appointed give their full commitment to uplift the school and for the betterment of the student and they should also look into the time period of their service before issuing the transfer order of the teachers,” Kharsati asserted.
