SHILLONG: On Monday morning Shillong Traffic Police (STP) put a clamp on official vehicle of senior police officer, IGP, GHP Raju when it was parked in no parking zone. The vehicle, a Bolero bearing number ML 02 0018 was found parked in the “No Parking Zone” in Keating road. Raju’s driver had to pay the mandatory fine of Rs 500 like every other citizen.

The driver frantically called IGP Raju and informed him about the action of the traffic cop. Raju said he directed the driver to pay the fine of Rs 500 and obtain a receipt from the traffic cop. The driver promptly paid the fine and got the vehicle released

Talking to this reporter, Raju said he told the Superintendent of Police (SP) East Khasi Hills to reward the traffic personnel for strict and impartial enforcement of the law.

“I appreciated the commitment of the traffic cop and requested the SP, EKH to reward this traffic cop for applying the “clamp” to the IGP’s vehicle which was parked in the “no parking” zone.

This act of the STP proves that the STP means business.

When asked why the vehicle was parked in a “No Parking Zone,” Raju said that it is the attitude of police drivers to break the law, adding that traffic cops too show leniency towards the “Boss’s vehicle”. Of late the STP has been strictly enforcing the “No Parking” rules without malice and earning a lot of revenue for the Government and accolades as well.
