Islamabad: At least 14 people, including three children, were killed and 25 others injured on Sunday when a car bomb rocked a paramilitary convoy in Pakistan’s northwest Peshawar city, a media report said.

The bombing took place around 12.30 p.m. when the convoy was passing by Badaber area of Peshawar, capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, Xinhua cited Urdu TV channel ARY as saying.

Javed Marwat, deputy commissioner of Peshawar, told Xinhua that three vehicles of the Frontier Constabulary paramilitary force were on their way from Kohat to Peshawar when the bomb explosion hit them.

Senior Superintendent of Police in Peshawar, Shafi Ullah, said an estimated 50 kg of explosive material were fixed onto a car parked by the roadside, and it was detonated by remote control.

No group claimed responsibility for the blast.

The deputy commissioner said most of the injured were civilians as the convoy was attacked in a busy market area.

At least 10 nearby shops and eight vehicles were destroyed in the bombing.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif condemned the attack. (IANS)
