Former State tax official receives Bharat Jyoti Award

SHILLONG: Retired Deputy Commissioner of Taxes, Taxation Department, K Mechaldo Roy Khylleb was recently presented the ‘Bharat Jyoti Award’ by the India International Friendship Society (IIFS), New Delhi, during a seminar on ‘Economic Growth and National Integration’.

The IIFS selected him for the award in recognition of his contribution in the revenue collection towards economic growth and national integration.

The Bharat Jyoti Award is presented annually to extraordinary men and women, who have specialized in various fields like economic growth, national integration, science and technology, education, industry, fine arts, politics and social work. In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Khylleb said he had never received any award in the past and he was not even aware of who forwarded his name to the IIFS for the award.

“We have to render our help to our colleagues and also other people coming to our office and to help the people in general in the society, it does not matter even if we fail to get any award in this world when we know that the real award is awaited for us from beyond,” he said.

Khylleb received the award from Dr Bhisma Narain Singh, former Union Cabinet Minister and Governor of Meghalaya, Assam and Tamil Nadu, in the presence of Dr MC Bhandari, former Governor of Orissa, GVG Krishna Murthy former Chief Election Commissioner, Major Ved Prakash, AICC secretary, Members of Parliament, industrialists, social workers and the intelligentsia.

Khylleb joined as the Inspector of Taxes in 1980 and was elevated to the post of Deputy Commissioner of Taxes for his meritorious services and outstanding performances in his career.
