TURA: A vehicle belonging to Virgo Cements of Damas has been found abandoned on the outskirts of Tura on Thursday night. Its driver and handyman have gone missing.

The Tata truck, which was engaged in the export of limestone from Chokpot region of South Garo Hills to the Virgo cement factory, was found abandoned at 9th Mile, on the road from Tura to Dalu, at around 9pm.

The whereabouts of the driver identified as Duto Rai and his assistant Sumaro Rai remain unknown to the authorities even as police have launched a search operation to locate the duo.

The Chokpot region is a hot bed for insurgent activities particularly of the GNLA which has spread its area of operation into the Kherapara and Gambegre region of West Garo Hills that borders Chokpot.
