SHILLONG: For the fourth time in a row, the Meghalaya Icon event of the Meghalaya Aids Control Society will witness a final concert on Saturday with as many as 11 finalists from all over the state who will be battling for the tag to become the brand ambassador of MACS for one full year.
The yearly event organised by MACS and sponsored by National Aids Control Organisation (NACO) with an objective to spread awareness to the masses on HIV/AIDS has been able to create an impact in the society.
Referring to the current report of MACS, Dr Chyne said the increase in the number of individuals who have come forward and get themselves tested shows that the initiative and endeavour of MACS is heading in the right direction.
Meanwhile, Andreas war of lelangki events also partners of MACS pointed that the focus is laid not only at motivating talented youth to showcase their skills but to also enhance, increase and share the understanding towards the subject.
The 11 finalists who will vie for the title on Saturday included Jameer Kharkongor, Still Status, Alvan Kharumniud and Empirical Tribe from East Khasi Hills District, from Garo Hills- Restless Desire and Warlock, from South West Khasi Hills -Identical Pro Section Image, from Ri Bhoi- The Pillar’z, from East Jaintia Hills–Burning Flame, from West Jaintia Hills-Blood Brothers and Colleague Soul from East Jaintia Hills who entered through the Wild card Entry.
Meghalaya Icon 4 carries a total cash prize of over Rs. 2.5 lakh and is being extended to include 7 major districts of Meghalaya as compared to three last year.
The concert, running consecutively in its fourth year now, is expected to attract about 4000 people, who will gather to watch 11 bands slug it out live on stage chosen out of a total of 75 entries to win the grand prize of Rs. 1,00,000/- and become brand ambassadors for the awareness on HIV/AIDS (MACS).
