SP urges youth to refrain from substance abuse

SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills SP, M Kharkrang has urged upon the student community to refrain from the use of drugs and other banned substance.

“We are committed to make youths an asset to the society. We would not like see our youth indulge in activities which would harm them in future,” Kharkrang said during the programme of the Safe Secure Shillong project organised by the East Khasi Hills police in collaboration with the Synod College at Dinam Hall Jaiaw on Monday.

The senior police official called upon the students’ community to be ambassadors in spreading the message to other members.EKH SP (city) Vivek Syiem gave an account of the rising narcotics related cases and growing incidences of drug peddling in the city. He also spoke about the consequences it would have on the student community and the society and the stringent legal implications.

SDM&HO of the Police unit hospital Dr S Khonglah highlighted the ill effects of chewing of tobacco, smoking, consumption of alcohol and drugs.
