SHILLONG: To prevent political back up in the final stages of recruitment, the State police have decided to call only 1.5 times out of the total vacancies which are available for the personal interview as per the merit list of the candidates who have successfully cleared the written examination.

“We are strictly following the process of recruitment as per the norms which have been laid down in the Transparent Recruitment Policy (TRP) which has been adopted by the police department,” Additional DGP (ADGP) BL Buam who is also the chairman of the Central Recruitment Board (CRB) informed here on Tuesday.

He said that the reason for calling only 1.5 times of the total candidates in the merit list out of the total vacancies for the personal interview was to prevent any kind of political back up by the candidates who were lying in the bottom of the merit list.

Citing an example, Buam said that if there total number of vacancies is 1750 (950 Unarmed Brach and 800 Armed Branch), the number of candidates from the merit list who would be called for personal interview as per the calculation of 1.5 times of the total vacancies would be around 2625.

As per the merit list which was announced on Monday night, he said that the total number of candidates who have cleared the written test is around 7000 plus.

“With the formula which is being adopted, the candidates who are on the top of the merit list would only be called for personal interview. Through the new TRP, we have really been to put in place a mechanism which is totally transparent,” ADGP said.

Meanwhile, he informed that they have also come up with another list of the candidates who have not properly filled up their roll numbers in the OMR Answer Sheet.

Informing that since the computer would accept the answer sheet of only those who have correctly written their roll numbers, he said that the candidates who have not properly written their roll number in the answer sheet are automatically disqualified.
