SHILLONG: Former Lok Sabha Speaker and NPP president Purno A Sangma on Friday ruled out the possibility of the parliamentary polls being preponed.
Talking to media persons here in the city on Friday, Sangma said, “I don’t think elections will be announced before the Congress passes its game changer Food Security Bill,”
Sangma, a former Congress leader, believed that the party would first implement the food security ordinance before they go out to seek votes.
Reacting to a query on the formation of the Third Front, Sangma said, “The Third Front is inevitable but the problem is its sustainability.” He recalled the past when the Third Front had come to power but was unable to retain it.
Sangma, however, did not rule the possibility of the NPP joining the Third Front should it come into existence.
Meanwhile, after the exit of the Janata Dal United from the BJP-led NDA, lobbying for the Third Front has gained ground with the Left Front, JD(U), TMC, AIADMK, BJD and TDP all having shut their doors on the BJP and the Congress.
