Agartala: CMD of NEEPCO PC Pankaj has asked the engineers and allied staff to commission the first phase of Manarchak power project by September next.

Pankaj, who made a whirlwind visit to the proposed Manarchak power project today, held a review meeting with people working at the ground. Senior NEEPCO officials and BHEL engineers were remained present in the meeting.

Sources said, the CMD asked the engineers to expedite the works so that the project could be commissioned by September next.

In the meeting, issues like gas supply to the project and erection of power transmission line were discussed. “If the gas supply is ensured to the project a month before the commission date, the NEEPCO will be able to run the gas turbine within the stipulated time. We also want the TSECL to erect transmission line to evacuate power from the plant by August”, said an official of NEEPCO.

When asked if the CMD was happy with the pace of works, the official claimed Mr. Pankaj was fully satisfied with the present pace of works at Manarchak in which the NEEPCO authority is giving top priority. “However, he asked the people engaged in the project to speed up the work so that the commissioning date could not delay further”, the official said. The project was supposed to be opened in March this year and later it was extended upto July. Now, the NEEPCO plans to commission the first phase September next.

In the first phase, only gas turbine will put on operation which will generate 65 MW power and later steam turbine will be switched on.

The gas turbine is supposed to produce 35 MW power, as per the designed plan. Sources said, the CMD would visit the state to review the progress of the Manarchak power project on July 23.
