Itanagar: The Union Ministry of Road Transport & Highways (MoRTH) has assured Arunachal Pradesh to prioritize development of road and communications in the land-locked state.
Union MoRTH Minister Oscar Fernandez during a meeting with Chief Minister Nabam Tuki at New Delhi yesterday also assured him about his visit to the state in September to review all ongoing road projects being funded by his ministry, official sources said here on Friday.
The chief minister accompanied by PWD Minister Chowna Mein and departmental engineers, during the meeting apprised the minister about the latest status of various projects under MoRTH being implemented in the state.
Tuki urged for early sanction of the project for 4 laning of twin capital cities of Itanagar and Naharlagun, the detailed project report for which has been submitted to the ministry.
The chief minister also apprised Fernandez of the project for two laning of the road from Itanagar to Jote, a new educational hub being developed by the state government with important institutes including NIT, Law College and Entrepreneurship Development coming up in the area.
The deplorable condition of the Khonsa-Hukanjuri road was also discussed during the meeting.
The chief minister requested two laning and modernisation of the road in National Highway standard under the Special Accelerated Road Development Programme (SARDP) – NE programme of the ministry, the sources said.
Tuki also brought up the issue of adequate compensation for reconstruction and restoration of roads damaged by heavy rainfall and floods in recent times while calling for sufficient allocation of funds under flood damage report.
He also appealed for enhancement of the normal allocation to the state under Central Road Fund (CRF) scheme which is currently at Rs. 41.49 crores, an amount inadequate to meet the requirements of the state. (PTI)
