Smuggling/ infiltration cases
BSF troops of Baghmara on Monday seized 104 cft Sal wood and 132 cft non-Sal wood of approximate value Rs. 6.28 lakh while it was being smuggled to Bangladesh.
BSF troops of Tuka in East Khasi Hills apprehended one Bangladeshi national Md Faridu Islam while he was infiltrating into India from Bangladesh.
Rape cases
Sohra Police arrested one Sanju Diengdoh alias Meao in connection with a rape-cum-murder case under Ranikor PS.
On July 22 around 3.30 pm, VDP members of Mawkyrwat apprehended two persons – Scripture Snaitang and Bah Ral – who had allegedly raped a woman at Rangmaw area in West Khasi Hills. Police have arrested the accused persons.
A woman lodged a complaint at Laban PS that on July 20 around 11.30 am a minor girl (15) was raped by her father Forget Wahlang in her residence at Thain Thynroh in East Khasi Hills.
A person lodged a complaint on July 20 at Williamnagar PS that one Dilip Momin alias Malan had raped and threatened his sister (15) on several occasions at Kusimkolgre-C in East Garo Hills.
Theft cases
On July 19 around 1 am, unknown miscreants stole two heads of cattle valued around Rs. 19,000 belonging to Jengsan R. Marak from Chambagre, Selsella in West Garo Hills.
Police arrested one Mithu Sharma (32) in connection with a theft case under Laban PS.
On July 21 around 4.30 pm, residents of Umphyrnai village apprehended two persons – Riverson Kharbihkhiew and Iainehskhem Wanniang – while they were attempting to commit theft in a stone quarry in the village.
Dakahi Kyndait lodged a complaint at Jowai PS that in between July 19 and 20, unknown miscreants broke into her house at Mihmyntdu, Lumpyrtuh and stole one laptop computer.
Cheating case
Venancius Shangpliang lodged a complaint at Jowai PS that his employees – Sumit Sangma and Rakesh Deb Burman – cheated him of Rs. 25,000 and Rs. 32,000 respectively.
Bobita Khatun lodged a complaint on July 20 at Mahendraganj PS that she along with others deposited Rs. 7,200 in M/s Suraha Micro Finance Group Ltd. However, the company had failed to pay the maturity amount.
Abduction case
Police have traced Holi Nonglang, resident of Umiong village in West Khasi Hills, who had been abducted recently. On July 22, Police traced Nonglang from Nongkhlaw village (WKH) and handed him over to his relatives.
Theft/ assault case
On the night of July 22, a group of unidentified miscreants entered into the houses of Baleshwar Hajong at Boiragupi village, Renjing Marak and Emonsing Sangma at Wagipara village in South West Garo Hills; Pranab Hajong at Rakhaldubi village and Samuel D. Sangma at Akkonggittim village in the same district and looted unspecified amount of money, ATM cards, cell phones and bank passbooks. The miscreants also assaulted the house owners.
Rajendra Koch lodged a complaint at Zikzak PS that on July 20 at about 8.30 pm, unidentified armed miscreants in combat fatigue looted Rs. 2,550 and two cell phones from him and his cousin at Mankolgre area, Zikzak-Ampati Road in South West Garo Hills.
Body recovered
On July 21, local residents of Jadi village recovered one unidentified male body from the village. It is suspected that the deceased was murdered by unknown miscreants on the night of July 20. Cadaver was sent to Williamnagar Civil Hospital for autopsy.
Arson case
On July 20 around 11.40 pm, unknown miscreants set fire to a labour shed at Basbari in South West Garo Hills. No loss of human life was reported.
