NONGSTOIN: The KSU Nongstoin Circle led by its president Davis Goldfield Wanniang met Chief Engineer PWD (Roads) L Passah at Shillong to discuss the deteriorating road condition around Nongstoin town area.

During the meeting, the Union submitted a memorandum to the PWD which stated that the Nongstoin-Nongpyndeng-Maweit, Urkali-Sohpian and Nongstoin-Umiap roads were in pathetic state and needed urgent repair. Copies of the letter were also addressed to the PWD Minister, Superintendent Engineer PWD (Roads) Western Circle and the local MLA of Nongstoin.

During their discussion with the Chief Engineer, Wanniang blamed the PWD’s lackadaisical attitude for the bad road condition which is worsening by the day.

Wanniang also highlighted that in February- March, 2014, the Synod of the Presbyterian, one of the biggest congregation of the Presbyterian would be held at Nongstoin and Riangdo.

He expressed concern that with the opresent condition of the roads, the auspicious gathering would turn into a huge disappointment for the thousands of believers who would attend the Synod.

Replying to Wanniang’s queries, Passah said a proposal regarding the repair of the Urkali-Nongstoin-Sohpian stretch of road has been sent to Delhi but no response has been received so far.

Passah also assured the Union that before the Synod next year, the PWD would repair the roads even if the Central Government does not sanction funds for the same.
