SHILLONG: Municipal Affairs Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh has counteracted the allegations made by Shillong Municipal Board board employees that the Government was biased in disbursement of arrears stating that the Government is working towards the early release of pending arrears.

“The Government is working overtime to generate the much needed funds which are required for payment of the dues of the employees,” Lyngdoh said here on Thursday.

She said that the Government was awaiting a grant in aid from the centre to the tune of Rs 2 crore to tie up the requirement for salaries and other remuneration.

“The State Government last year released Rs. 1.6 crore and the year before Rs 1.4 crore towards this requirement of the board,” Municipal Affairs Minister said.

Meanwhile, she said that the employees are due for one month’s salary and not two months as claimed by the employees. “Their pay for the month of June is pending and since their pay cycle is mid month, July is not yet in the picture,” Lyngdoh said.

Lyngdoh rued that much noise was being created over this matter but on the contrary, the Board itself was failing to generate much needed revenue.

“Almost 25 per cent of dues are yet to be realized by the Board and this is one impediment in timely release of salaries”, she added.
