SHILLONG: The State Cabinet on Friday approved the Meghalaya Deficit Adhoc Colleges Management Rules, 2013 to replace the Assam Education Rules, 1950 and the Assam Aided College Employees Rules, 1960.

“We hope that the education system in the State would improve with the approval of this new rule,” Deputy Chief Minister in charge of Education, Prof RC Laloo, said while speaking to reporters after the Cabinet meeting.

With the adoption of the new rule, the Government would now be able to regulate the functioning of various colleges and can even keep a check on the emergence of and the management of private colleges, Prof Laloo said.
