SHILLONG: The 10th annual general meeting of the Meghalaya Defense Civilian Workers’ Co-operative Credit Society Ltd. was held at the premises of the office of the Garrison Engineer Shillong (MES) here on Saturday.

During the function, the members of the co-operative society expressed their problems in front of the higher authorities stating that the defense civilian does not get the house building advance which is one of the necessities in life.

Secondly a large portion of their salary is spent to meet the medical expenses and about 98% of the defense civilian does not claim the medical allowance in order to avoid unnecessary harassment by the accounts department while demanding that the CSD canteen facilities should be made available to the retired staffs which are not yet put to practice.

Meanwhile, Colonel Sanjay Datta, the Chief Engineer (officiating) Air Force, Shillong who attended the function as the chief guest urged the society to always look after the welfare of its members and the society as a whole.

“In today’s world where everything has become so expensive, the co-operative society should strive hard for the welfare and hence should concentrate as how to make loan available with a low rate of interest,” said Datta.
