VDP rally to spread awareness held

 NONGSTOIN: On Saturday last, a VDP rally of Mairang Circle organized by West Khasi Hills Police was held at Pyndengumiong Club hall, Mairang.

The function was attended by A Sunn, IPS Dy. Inspector General (E/R), S Nongtnger, MPS – Superintendent of Police, West Khasi Hills, SW Malai MPS – SDPO Mairang, among others and 350 VDP members of Mairang Circle including Sordars and Secretaries within Mairang Civil Sub Division.

Speeches were delivered by the Police officers who enlightened the participants on important issues like setting up of VDP in villagers, VPS Act, issues concerning maintenance of peace and tranquility in the respective villagers, and the importance of knowing the laws like IPC, CrPC for the benefits of the society and the community as a whole.

Issues like witch craft, detecting of outsiders and strangers visiting their locality, and knowledge of assisting the Police in crime matter were being discussed and elaborated during the function which the Police stressed that superstitious beliefs in a civilized society should be discarded and matters concerning the same should be informed to the Police so that necessary actions as per law can be taken and investigated into.
