BARCELONA: Barcelona says that Brazilian striker Neymar has developed anaemia, but that it won’t stop his preseason training with the Spanish champions.

Anaemia is a lower than normal count of red blood cells that causes fatigue or weakness.

The team says that ”due to an operation on his tonsils this summer the player is suffering a case of anaemia that is being treated and won’t impede him from training with normality with the rest of his team mates.”

Neymar is currently with Barcelona in Israel on a ”Peace Tour” of West Asia.

Barcelona opens the Spanish league against Levante on August 18.

The 21-year-old Neymar joined Barcelona from Brazilian club Santos recently.

Thousands of fans, many clad in Barca shirts, packed every corner of a new stadium in the town of Dura in the southern West Bank as the Barca players held an hour-long clinic with some 40 young Palestinian boys and girls.

The streets of Bethlehem, where the team visited the birthplace of Jesus, and the city of Hebron near Dura were adorned with Barcelona flags as people lined the route to catch a glimpse of their heroes. (Agencies)
