JOWAI: Deputy Chief Minister in-charge of Education Prof RC Laloo inaugurated the school building of the Skhen Talang Secondary School in Amlarem Sub Division in presence of Lok Sabha member from the State, Vincent H Pala, on Friday.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Laloo praised the Dorbar Shnong of Skhen Talang village for its efforts in managing the school since the time of its establishment in 2001. He also assured an ad hoc grant from the government meant for paying the salaries of the two new teachers to be appointed by the school managing committee.

Addressing the gathering Pala stressed on the importance of a strengthened education system in rural areas for the overall development of the state.

“Only knowledge stemming from education can truly empower rural communities”, Pala said while urging the Dorbar Shnong, teachers and residents of Skhen Talang village to continue upholding the spirit of co-operation that has led them to become one of the very few villages in the War Jaintia region to have a Secondary School.

It may be mentioned that over the years, the Skhen Talang Secondary School has received financial assistance of over Rs 10 lakh from the Border Areas Department, Government of Meghalaya.
