TURA: A nine-year-old boy drowned after being swept away by strong currents of a stream in Sampalgre locality of Tura on Saturday afternoon. His body was retrieved several kms downstream at Aglanggre.

The child, Arun Sangam R Marak, was playing soccer with a group of friends using a fruit as the ball next to Kasanang stream, behind Don Bosco High School field, when it fell into the water. While trying to pull the fruit out of the water the strong currents of the stream dragged him under and an attempt by one of his friends to pull him out proved futile.

A massive search was conducted by locals with the help of fire brigade personnel all through the banks of the stream and it was three hours later that search parties located the body which had been swept several kilometers downstream.
