SHILLONG: An FIR was lodged by the CSWO against former Arunachal Home Minister L Wanglat for his alleged abuse against women security guards.

In the FIR, CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing alleged that she had received information that on July 19 this year, Wanglat abused one Stela Kharsyntiew, who was a woman security guard at the Shillong Golf Club, at about 5 am and even called her in a degrading manner, saying “hey stupid come here”.

Kharshiing termed the incident as a direct insult to the women, especially the women of Meghalaya who are held in high esteem.

“In my interaction with the women security guards of Shillong Golf Club, they have complained that they had been often discriminated and scolded with degrading and abusive words by Wanglat who was a member of the Shillong Golf Club, from July 2012 till July 19 this year.

According to Kharshiing, the women security guards had earlier informed the Director of the Shillong Golf Club, but he had told them that Wanglat was an influential member of the Club and a former Home Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, and if there were complaints, they may lose their jobs.

“So for fear of losing their jobs they kept quiet and suffered the abuse in silence,” Kharshiing said.

“This is also an act of outraging the modesty of women in their workplace, and cannot be tolerated by a civilized society and as an NGO working in the interest of women we find the act highly condemnable,” the FIR said urging the police to arrest Wanglat.

The incident was also informed to Health Minister AL Hek on July 19 by the women security guards of the Shillong Golf Club.
