TURA: East Garo Hills Police exchanged heavy fire with GNLA militants during an early morning raid on the latter’s hideout near Dobu on Saturday.

SWAT commandos together with CoBRA units of the CRPF raided Bolmoram Adinggre village, 9 km from Dobu and 20 km from Williamnagar, following intelligence inputs about the presence of a large group of GNLA cadres there.

The raid which took place at approximately 6:45 am led to heavy firing from both sides which reportedly lasted for half an hour before the militants escaped. There were no casualties on either side. According to police, the militants, who were in two different groups, were holed up at separate locations in the village when the security forces attacked them. GNLA commander Jimmy, who orchestrated the Nengkhra IED blast two weeks ago, was also a part of the group which managed to give police a slip.
